Over the weekend of the 1st and 2nd of May Blue Therapy Active were privileged to host a paddle leader two day workshop training course with Sean McGrath from www.wildriver.co.uk to help the team prepare for their British Canoeing Paddle Leader assessment.
With an early start on the Saturday the team were briefed by Sean commencing with an itinerary of how the weekend would unfold and what it would entail. Time for any questions from those participating before heading down to the slipway at Two Tree Island to begin training.
Across both day’s the seven candidates were led through a series of various skills and drills to further their development in leadership within the environment they regularly teach in. This included paddling in conditions up to and including force four, in inland and open water settings with fast flowing water.
With a myriad of differing weather fronts thrown at the group whilst out paddling, they covered a a distance of around 20km, with more than four hours water time each day. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves and took so much from Sean’s fifteen plus years of experience.
The course concluded with a debrief and time for Q&A along with one to one discussions with Sean that included feedback and plan preparation for their upcoming assessments. An amazing weekend and with special thanks to Sean for coming down from the Lake District to deliver a fantastic course.
