In September of 2021 Blue Therapy Active Co-founder & Owner Sarah-Jane Coombes along with support staff team member Hayley Rosewell undertook their British Canoeing Inland/Open Water Sup Leader Assessment under the observational eye of the wonderful and lovely Jenna Saunders from Flying Gecko.
After having undergone numerous hours of practice alongside the planning and logistics for the full day assessment, they both enlisted the expert services and training from Sean Mcgrath of Wild River to aid in their preparation. This would prove to be immensely beneficial and invaluable to ensure there readiness.
Jenna is so lovely and brings with her a laid back encouraging and hugely optimistic and motivational support to all that have had the privilege to be in her company. This was evident on the day in her calming and inspirational approach, putting both ladies at ease from the get go.
The Inland/Open Water Sup Leader is designed to support the development of their personal skill level, leadership and overall ability to lead a group of paddlers in moderate inland and open waters. Conditions on the day were to be perfect and after briefing the candidate volunteers (vicitms) ;-) the assessment was under way.
An amazing day as they rode the waves from Two Tree Island to Southend Beach leading the group safely on an epic journey in sea conditions within the remit of the award. Sarah and Hayley concluded the day with a reflection on the assessment, feedback from Jenna and finally congratulations from her on the successful completion and passing of the award.
With thanks to Jenna who we really can't recommend enough for anyone looking for extra training, development or assessment. You can contact Jenna through Flying Gecko on Facebook or via her website, or ask us and we will be more than happy to send you her details.
Final thanks go out to the wonderful candidate volunteers for coming along to help us, and for making this an enjoyable and memorable experience. You know who you all are and we look forward to sharing more time on the water with you very soon.
